President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi called US President-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday to congratulate him on winning the presidential elections.
Sisi invited Trump to Egypt and expressed optimism toward strengthening relations between the two countries in all fields.
Trump thanked Sisi for his phone call saying it is the first he received from a foreign president after winning the presidential bid.
Trump said he was looking forward to meeting Sisi again, and praised their meeting in New York last September.
Trump expressed keenness on the continuation of US-Egypt friendly relations.
In a statement earlier Wednesday, Sisi congratulated Trump, wishing him success in the performance of his duties and responsibilities toward the American people, who granted him their confidence.
The statement said Sisi looks forward to strengthening cooperation between Egypt and the United States at all levels.
"Proceeding from the special strategic relations which have been tying Egypt and the United States since long decades, and out of belief in the important role and common goals achieved and maintained by these relations, including backing stability in the Middle East and Africa and protecting the interests of the peoples of the two regions, the Arab Republic of Egypt is looking forward to reviving a new spirit throughout the term-office of President Donald Trump in US-Egypt relations, and to further cooperation and coordination for the benefit of the two peoples," the statement read.
The statement added that Egypt also aspires for promoting peace, stability, and development in the Middle East through cooperation with the US administration in light of the great challenges facing the region.
"The Arab Republic of Egypt congratulates the friendly American people on the completion of successful presidential elections, and wishes them prosperity, stability and progress," said the statement.
