Local authorities in Giza Governorate have selected eight main squares to hold the official June 30 celebrations on Thursday evening, with various shows and musical performances laid on for the public.
Giza Governor Mohamed Kamal al-Daly has met with the variuos authorities concerned to review the program of events and ensure that all preparations are in place, according to a press statement.
Daly said that the eight squares are: Sphinx; Bohouth Station; Mounib; Remaya; Juhayna and three other squares in 6 October City.
Authorities were coordinating with Giza Security Directorate to secure the events, said Daly.
Various minor celebrations are planned for other areas, such as Imbaba Garden, and on the streets of Nahda and Geziret al-Arab in Mohandessin, which will be closed until the celebrations are finished.
The governor instructed the mayors of Giza districts and the heads of neighborhoods to clean the streets and place flowers and flags in places where celebrations are to be held.
The June 30 celebrations are an annual public holiday founded to celebrate the so-called "June 30 Revolution" of 2013, in which former president Mohamed Morsi was removed from power after large-scale protests.
