A court in Sharqiya sentenced 12 people linked with the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood to three years in prison over charges of preventing voters from casting ballots during presidential elections in 2014.
Prosecutors had referred the convicts to trial over charges of possessing anti-government leaflets and attempting to dissuade voters from taking part in the polls.
Brotherhood members have persistently dismissed the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in 2013 as a military coup, while Sisi supporters defend the overthrow as a popular uprising.
