Solidarity Movement to hold press conference on Civil Service law Tuesday

The Solidarity Movement, which represents over 30 trade unions, will hold a press conference Tuesday to announce the final preparations to be made for the mass protest planned on September 12 against the new Civil Service law.

The Egyptian Trade Union Federation, meanwhile, issued a statement on Monday describing the call for protests as "suspicious."

Head of the Independent Union for Real Estate Tax Tarek Kaeib said the Solidarity Movement will announce a campaign to collect the signatures of employees rejecting the law during a press conference. The signatures will be used in lawsuits against the law.

There is a fierce media campaign waged against both the movement and trade unions objecting to the law, Kaeib said.

Escalatory measures will be taken by protesters if the government does not respond to the demands of six million employees objecting to the law following the September 12 protest, he added.
