New campaign urges Internet customers not to pay monthly bill

The Internet Revolution Youth page on Facebook, a page pressing for improved Internet services at affordable prices in Egypt, has called for a new campaign against telecommunications companies. It has also asked that customers not pay the monthly Internet bill.

The page said the campaign will last from September 29 to October 29.

Communications Minister Khaled Negm has met with the Internet Revolution Youth campaign's coordinators several times since he came into office on March 5.

The minister had announced on July 30 that new prices for Internet services were being provided by TE Data, which is owned by Telecom Egypt. Other telecommunications companies have yet to announce new prices.

Ninety percent of TE Data customers have subscribed to the new packages, said acting director general of TE Data Mohamed Labib.

TE Data has 2.3 million customers, which represent 68 percent of Internet users in Egypt, Labib mentioned.
