Abul Ela Amin, director of the National Institute for Astronomical and Geophysical Research, said Saturday’s earthquake, which took place at 5:34 pm southeast of Nuweiba, had a magnitude of 5.2 on the Richter scale and a depth of 20 km.
He added that the center monitored 40 aftershocks following the earthquake, with the strongest one recording a magnitude of 3.8 on the Richter scale, which was felt in South Sinai, Suez and Cairo.
