Official sources at the Ministry of Transport revealed that Major General Ahmed Gamal Eddin, presidential adviser for security affairs, had discussed raising the metro fares and the repercussions of that decision with Hani Dahi, Minister of Transport.
Gamal Eddin and Dahi agreed to postpone the decision to increase the ticket price, expected to be a flat rate of LE2 until the first batch of air-conditioned trains operates on Helwan-Marg line, so citizens can feel the improvement of service before raising prices. The first air-conditioned train started operating last Thursday. The second is expected to start working on June 30.
Egypt has imported a total of 20 metros from South Korea at LE2.2 billion.
