Al-Azhar has criticized Dutch MP Geert Wilders, known for his hostility toward Islam, for his remarks that cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohamed will be aired on Dutch TV.
Azhar said that such attempts will clearly provoke the wrath of Muslims and violate westerners’ beliefs of respecting the values of fraternity, equality and peace.
In a statement on Monday, Azhar said that airing the cartoons will anger Muslims worldwide and benefit terrorism, the latter which takes advantage of such incidents to spread violence and destabilize world peace and security.
Meanwhile, Al-Azhar also praised the stance taken by other Dutch MPs and media that rejected the airing of the cartoons.
The statement concluded by saying that the cartoons only show hatred and do not conform to the respect of other people's beliefs and cultures.
