Dr. Mohamed Ezz al-Arab, an advisor for the National Liver Institute, said Egypt has the highest annual rate of Hepatitis C infections, with two out of every six citizens sufering from the disease.
The statement came on Monday, at a conference launching the Egyptian Initiative for the Elimination of Hepatic Viruses.
“The area with the largest amount of infections is the Delta, excluding Alexandria,” Dr. Ezz al-Arab said.
He added that the initiative aims to produce an alternative to the “Harvoni” drug, to be taken without the “Interferon” drug, and to be sold at a unified price in all governorates.
