Atef Abdellatif, a member of the Egyptian-German Chamber of Commerce, called for including the promotion of German tourism in Egypt in the agenda of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi's visit to Germany.
According to Abdellatif, many German companies offer incentives for workers in the form of tourist trips to different countries. President Sisi could encourage the owners of the companies during his visit to organize trips to Egypt, he added.
The number of German tourists who visited Egypt in 2014 reached 800,000, which brought up to LE 2 billion in revenues, he said.
"Previously, German tourists used to spend two weeks in Egypt, but currently they usually stay only one week. German tourists care a lot about classical tourism, beaches and entertainment, therefore the government must provide charter flights to Luxor, Aswan, Hurghada and Sharm al-Sheikh," said Abdellatif.
He also called on the government to resolve the issues facing Mercedes and BMW in Egypt, before they decide to terminate their investments in the country.
The trade exchange between Egypt and Germany reaches 4.5 billion euros. It is the first trade partner of Egypt in Europe and one of the most important countries that provide development assistance. The volume of German investments in Egypt reaches 2.5 billion euros, Abdellatif added.
