The Grand Sheikh of Al-Azhar, Ahmed al-Tayeb, at a meeting with intellectuals and scholars dedicated to the ways tofprotecting the community from religious extremism, said on Tuesday that Al-Azhar was the first institution to call for renewing the Islamic thought.
“It is impossible for all people to agree on one thing,” he said. “But we must unite in the face of the enemies of the nation.”
He said that Al-Azhar will soon present a document on the renewal of religious thought, along the lines of the projects that were presented before, which have gained recognition both in Egypt and abroad.
