After enjoying the spotlight this fall thanks to George Clooney’s splashy wedding, Venice opened the doors to a new private island JW Marriott resort that boasts the largest spa in the city.
With views of St. Mark’s Square, rooms at the JW Marriott Venice is contemporary in design, a departure from many of the luxurious hotels that play up old Venetian glamour with baroque Italian furnishings and elaborate frescoes.
The opening marks the brand’s first resort and spa in Europe.
Set across 16 acres, the property features fruit arbors, olive groves, restaurants and bars, as well as a cooking school and wine academy.
When complete, the 1,750-meter spa becomes the largest in Venice and feature indoor and outdoor aqua-tonic pools, health club, treatment rooms, hammam and luxury spa suite.
Facilities and activities include canoeing and sailing, while guests are also able to make their own Murano glass and Venetian masks in workshops led by local artisans.
Meanwhile, Clooney’s splashy wedding to human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin served as free publicity for The Aman Canal Grande Venice and The Belmond Hotel Cipriani, which served as the couple’s wedding week venues.
