Two army officers and two conscripts died on Wednesday afternoon while trying to defuse an improvised explosive device planted by unidentified assailants on the road army troops take to Rafah, North Sinai.
Their bodies were taken to the military hospital, and prosecutors were notified to conduct investigations.
Other unidentified assailants had placed a barrel filled with explosives next to a house inhabited by police in the Karm Abu Negeila district in Arish, North Sinai earlier in the day, according to an informed security source.
“The residents informed the policemen, who hurried outside the house before the bomb exploded. There were no fatalities, but the surrounding buildings were affected by the blast,” the source said.
“Security troops cordoned off the area and combed it in search of the perpetrators. Apache planes also searched for the criminals,” he added.
