Defendants involved in the violence outside the Egyptian Media Production City (EMPC) in 2013 have alleged humiliating conditions while in prison.
From inside the dock of the Giza Criminal Court on Saturday, defendants said prison officers have forced them to strip naked and have denied them food and drink.
The defendants face charges of the attempted murder of police officers, as well as setting police vehicles and other property on fire, causing hundreds of thousands of pounds in losses.
Egypt’s Interior Ministry has occasionally rejected accusations that inmates have been subject to torture. Over the past few months, however, several police officers have been referred to trial over charges of torturing detainees to death.
