CAPMAS: 4.4% increase in tourism in 2014

The number of inbound tourists reached 9.9 million people in 2014, compared to 9.5 million people in 2013, marking an increase of 4.4 percent, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
 
In the annual 2014 bulletin on tourism issued on Wednesday, CAPMAS said 45.1 percent of the tourists came from Eastern Europe, 31.6 percent from Western Europe and 13.6 percent from the Middle East.
 
Tourist stayed a total of 97.3 million nights in accommodations in 2014, compared to 94.4 million nights in 2013, marking an approximate 3 percent increase.
 
The most number of nights were spent by tourists from Eastern Europe, at 43.6 percent, with Western Europe second at 32.1 percent and the Middle East at 16.5 percent.
 
Tourists coming from Arab countries reached 1.6 million in 2014, compared to 1.8 million tourists in 2013, the bulletin added.
 
Nights spent by tourists from Arab countries reached 19 million in 2014, compared to 22.8 million nights in 2013.
 
The average number of nights spent in accommodations per tourist reached 10.2 nights in 2014, as opposed to 10.3 in 2013.
