The Endowments Ministry issued a statement on Wednesday, announcing that women preachers must be graduates of the al-Azhar educational institutions or the Islamic Culture Institutes, adding that they are also obliged to pass the necessary tests and have a valid permit. In addition, they must obtain letters from the various preaching departments, in order to determine the topics of their sermons and the mosques they are allowed to preach in.
The ministry also requested its directorates to provide the names of all the women preachers for approval within two weeks.
The statement said all the previously issued permits would not be valid unless they are renewed by May 21.
