The Suez Canal Authority said in a statement that it has drilled 226 million cubic meters of dry excavation work with a 98.3 percent completion rate. After that, bricks would be placed for the banks of the channel.
The statement explained that the first phase includes drilling the main channel for 35 kilometers from the Km 60 marker in the north to the Km 95 marker in the south, with four connecting channels at Km 65, Km 76, Km 84 and Km 89 for a length of 4 km and 180 million cubic meters of dry excavation work, which were all 100 percent completed.
The second phase is to expand the western channel from Al-Balah branch from a width of 61 meters to 312 meters and for a length of 10 km, in addition to the bridges, the sedimentation basins and the deepening of the natural lakes in New Ismailia, of which 92 percent has been completed. After this, bricks would be placed on the banks of the channel, of which 5,500 linear meters out of 100 kilometers has been completed.
There are 37 dredging machines working at the site that have completed 140 million cubic meters so far, or 28 kilometers of a total of 250 million cubic meters at different depths.
Also working at the site are 90 companies with 2,800 machines and 20,500 engineers, technicians and workers.
