Cairo covered in garbage due to street cleaners’ strike

Street cleaners from the AMA Arab company have been on strike for two weeks, protesting against the layoffs and salary reductions, leaving piles of garbage in the streets of the northern and western parts of Cairo, particularly in Shubra and Ahmed Helmy areas.

Hafiz Saeed, head of the Cairo Cleaning and Beautification Authority, said they were responsible for removing the garbage during the strike, adding that Cairo Governor Galal Mostafa Saeed met with the company officials and ordered that the garbage be removed within 48 hours.
