Iraqi Vice President Iyad Allawi said many Arab countries effectively took part in fighting the terrorist Islamic State group, adding that Iraqis are at the forefront of the confronters.
Allawi, who was once a prime minister said, “Many Arab countries with Saudi Arabia, Egypt and others supported the Iraqi troops through weapons and other military equipment.”
“During my recent tours in Arab countries, I obtained amounts of weapons offered to Iraq from our Arab brothers. They are currently being used in fighting against IS armed militias. Such a move is considered a serious response against accusations that Arab countries support terrorism. Our brothers in Saudi Arabia were on top by supporting Iraq with weapons to fight the terrorist group,” Allawi said in press remarks.
“The biggest mistake that we, the politicians, committed in Iraq was accepting the US occupation,” he added.
On the 12th anniversary of the US invasion to Iraq in 2003, Allawi said, “Our agreement with the US, while I was with the opposition, stated forming Iraqi government once the Saddam Hussein’s regime downfalls. Such agreement took place during the Iraqi opposition conference in London late 2002.”
