Transportation Minister Hani Dahi said the first batch of air-conditioned trains will soon run on the first line of the metro (Helwan-Marg) system.
The batch includes 20 trains coming from South Korea at a cost of LE2.2 billion.
“The new train was transferred to workshops in Tora al-Balad to start tests on it within a few days. This will be followed by a trial run of the train along the lines and finally, the train is expected to be in service within 45 days, according to a plan by The National Authority for Tunnels (NAT) and the Egyptian Company for Metro Management and Operation,” the minister said.
Ismail al-Nagdy, head of NAT, said the train is the first one to be delivered within the agreement between the authority and South Korea.
