A fracture in the main pipeline for exporting oil at General Petroleum Corporation's port in Ras Ghareb city on Friday caused an oil leak that has gone into the sea.
Environment Ministry authorities, maritime counter-pollution offices and the corporation's environment administration in Hurghada were notified to control the pollution.
The pumping into the pipeline has been stopped, according to sources from the Red Sea. The leakage into the sea covered approximately 1,500 square meters.
A technical committee made up of several Egyptian environmental authorities in the Red Sea submitted a report which includes the causes behind the leak, the polluted area and actions made to control the leakage to Environment Minister Khaled Fahmy.
