The Egyptian, Sudanese and Ethiopian ministers of foreign affairs and water and irrigation are meeting in the Sudanese capital on Tuesday to discuss sticking points in the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.
The three countries have held several tripartite meetings since Ethiopia started constructing its Grand Renaissance Dam in May, 2013.
Tuesday's meeting comes in continuation of an earlier round of meetings held among the foreign ministers of the three countries in the Ethiopian capital from February 4 to February 6. The meetings are held to discuss the means of maximising the benefits of the dam and minimising its side effects.
Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri, his Ethiopian counterpart Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and Egyptian Water and Irrigation Minister Hossam Moghazi arrived in Khartoum late Monday for the meeting.
Egypt's relationship with Ethiopia has been tense since the construction of the dam began.
Egypt believes the dam would negatively affect its share of the Nile water. The hydroelectric dam is being built on the Blue Nile, which provides Egypt with 85 percent of its Nile water share.
