Two people were killed and five others, including a police conscript, were injured in a blast outside a police station in Upper Egypt's city of Aswan late Sunday, state-run news agency MENA reported.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the explosion resulted from a bomb planted by unidentified persons in an electricity transformer outside the police station, MENA cited Aswan Security Director Mohamed Mostafa as saying.
Militants have escalated attacks targeting security forces in several parts of the country since the military ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Mursi in July 2013, which followed mass protests against his rule.
