A 22-year-old army consript was killed and another 23-year-old recruit injured as unknown gunmen shot soldiers standing outside a hotel in the city of Arish, North Sinai, according to a security source.
Both were transferred to Arish military hospital.
A security cordon was made around the scene of the incident in an attempt to arrest the gunmen.
Eyewitnesses said that several gunmen were on board a car when they started shooting the soldiers before escaping.
