Weddings in Arish are normally held in the evening as is the custom of all Egyptians, but with the curfew imposed on the city since 25 October after the terrorist attack on the Karam al-Qawadis checkpoint, people now must hold weddings during the day.
The Bedouin tribes in northern Sinai, however, have not been affected by curfew, as they hold their weddings during the day, given the desert nature of the area.
The groom picks the bride from her home and walks with her in a procession to his home, where guests are invited for a banquet.
Hassan Salam, a researcher in tribal affairs, says many guests can no longer attend weddings because they work in the morning.
