The Egyptian Company for Metro Management & Operation closed on Sunday the Abdel Nasser Metro Station, citing security reasons.
The station is one of the closest entrances to both Tahrir and Abdel Moniem Riyad squares as Sadat station has been closed since August 2013.
The ECMMO spokesperson Ahmed Abdel Hady told Egypt Independent the station was closed at 2 pm, though no date has been given for its reopening.
"We don't have specific time or date that we could reopen the station, it might be after five minutes or maybe longer, we literally don't know" he said.
Dozens of protesters massed on Saturday evening in Abdel Moniem Riyad square following the Cairo Criminal Court's acquittal of the ousted president Mohammed Hosni Mubarak, his former Interior Minister Habib al-Adly and his six aides of all charges in connection with the killing of protesters during the 2011 revolution.
According to the Health Ministry, two people died and nine were injured following security's attempts to disperse the protest at Abdel Moniem Riyad square. While the Cairo governorate security director told Aswat Masriya that security personnel have arrested around 85 protesters.
Following the dispersals of Rabaa Aladweya and al-Nahda squares, ECMMO temporary closed the metro stations of Giza and Sadat for security purposes, after a decision issued by the Interior Ministry at that time. Giza station was reopened few months ago, while the Sadat station is remainds closed.
