Cabinet to discuss Nile taxis next week

In a bid to reduce traffic congestion inside the capital, the Cabinet will start next week its discussions of the “Nile River taxi” project proposed by the ministries of transportation, irrigation and environment, which is designed to link the Qanater al-Khairiya region, north of Cairo, with Helwan, south of Cairo.

According to the project’s plan, the river taxi will stop at 10 stations, with each journey taking 45 minutes, compared to a minimum of one hour by car.

Official sources at the Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources said the total of daily journeys will stand at 15. Minister Hossam Moghazy said, however, journeys would take 20 minutes. The ministry prepares to launch the project by January 2015.
