Presidency denies news over Sisi’s assassination attempt

Presidential Spokesperson Alaa Youssef said that news published by the Saudi Al-Madina newspaper about foiling an attempt to assassinate President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi in October is false.

“Talks over assassination attempt of the president are untrue,” Youssef said.

“The president was not subjected to any assassination attempts,” he told Al-Masry Al-Youm, adding that the presidency deals with the public transparently without hiding anything.

Al-Madina newspaper quoted a security source as saying that “the attempt was not disclosed as per the request of Sisi, who informed his entourage that he was used to such dangers and that he did not want to raise people's fears.”

“On 26 October, the presidential procession was in Heliopolis in an early hour in the morning, when a car parked on the side of the road was doubted. A man in his thirties was inside. Once the president’s guard approached him, he tried to escape, leaving the car parked. He was arrested. Huge amounts of explosives were found inside,” the source told the newspaper.
