Health authorities in Damietta have announced a state of emergency after 16 students were diagnosed with chickenpox.
A medical source said the students from Ahmed Ibrahim Suleiman elementary school were given 15 days leave as part of quarantine measures.
"Other schools are being combed for further potential cases," the source said.
Mohamed Teilab, head of the province’s health insurance department, said the authority had taken all necessary measures to curb the infections among school students.
