The Alexandria Court of Urgent Matters on Tuesday set 25 November to issue its verdict on a lawsuit filed by Tarek Mahmoud, the secretary general of the coalition supporting the ‘Long live Egypt’ fund, against the president and the prime minister to demand they criminalize groups, movements or individuals that use the slogan of ‘Down with the Military Rule’ in demonstrations in Egypt or abroad, on the grounds that it threatens Egyptian national security and targets the historical relationship between the people and the army, in addition to it being an insult to the army that stood by the people on 30 June.
Mahmoud argued in his lawsuit that people called the military “askar,” a term used to describe mercenaries hired by individuals, which does not apply to the Egyptian army.
