US Secretary of State John Kerry decided to extend his visit to Cairo one more day to continue talks about a ceasefire in Gaza, the official news agency MENA reported.
Kerry had started a series of talks since his arrival in Cairo on Monday. He met with UN chief Ban Ki-Moon and started talks with Egypt's foreign minister Sameh Shokry on Tuesday.
He will meet later with the chief of the Arab League, Nabil al-Araby, and he is expected to be received by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
Meanwhile, Shokry said Egypt does not intend to modify its initiative on Gaza because it considers it a comprehensive plan.
According to Shokry, the initiative entails opening the borders after the situation becomes stable, allowing aid to the Palestinians.
Ban Ki Moon said he supports Sisi's efforts to stop the violence in Gaza, saying that Egypt is the core of the political process on the situation in Gaza. He also said a ceasefire is important, adding that his work mainly revolves around allowing access of aid and reaching a ceasefire.
