The Consumer Protection Association criticized raising electricity and fuel prices and said this would raise the prices of all other products by up to 200 percent.
Zeinab Awadallah, president of the Consumer Protection Association, said fuel and electricity are essential commodities that are linked to all other commodities.
“Raising prices will raise the cost of transportation for example,” she added. “The government is taking haphazard decisions and it must stop fooling the people.”
Mahmoud al-Askalani, chief of the Citizens Against Price Increases association, said the government was forced to raise prices.
“The prime minister told me that it is difficult to balance the rights of the current generation and future generations so they do not carry old debts,” he said. “I wish they had postponed it until after Ramadan.”
The government said that it is increasing prices in order to reduce the budget deficit and reduce future debt.
