President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi issued a decree on Thursday setting the maximum wage for state employees at LE42,000 per month, which is 35 times the minimum wage of LE1,200.
The presidency said in a statement that the decree was based on Article 27 of the Constitution, which states that the economic system commits to equal opportunities and and equitable distribution of wealth, reduces disparities between incomes, and ensures a minimum wage and pension that guarantee a decent life and a maximum wage for state employees.
According to a decision passed in May, the president’s salary is LE42,000 per month, divided equally between salary and allowance.
