Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Ayman Farid Abu Hadid said Egypt has reached self-sufficiency in the production of eggs after more than 30 years of importing them.
Abu Hadid also said that the ministry is working on a plan to increase local production of veterinary vaccines so as to stop imports, which would provide thousands of job opportunities.
At a meeting with poultry and livestock breeders on Friday, the minister said the ministry is allocating land for breeding young calves so as to achieve self-sufficiency in this regard and reduce meat prices.
He explained that the ministry is keen to achieve the greatest possible self-sufficiency in red meat, and cost the livestock sector in view of the recurrence of successful experience in the production of poultry and red meat.
“These products should be available for consumers at affordable prices,” he said.
For their part, the breeders said they are willing to cooperate with the ministry and sell at reasonable prices.
