Presidential candidate Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said on Wednesday that the national security of the Arab region is an integral part of Egypt's national security.
This came at a meeting with a number of newspaper chief editors.
Sisi also said that the Egyptian army is ready to intervene for the security of the Gulf states or any other Arab country if the Egyptian people approve it.
He praised the Gulf states for their support for Egypt.
Columnist Mostafa Bakry had tweeted after a meeting with Sisi that he said the rapid reaction force of the Egyptian army can carry out missions outside Egypt to defend Arab national security.
He also quoted Sisi as saying that Egyptians no longer tolerate political Islam and denied any intention to reconcile with forces he said were working against the country.
“I would leave immediately if the people asked me to, but I am confident I will succeed with their help,” Bakry wrote, quoting Sisi in the meeting.
