The owner of a car ripped by a blast near Orabi subway station in Ramses late Friday was a retired army officer, a security source told Al-Masry Al-Youm.
The victim “was a reserve officer called Bassem Ahmed Gamea. He had finished his military service,” the source said.
The source revealed that investigators are checking whether the victim committed a suicide bombing or was a target himself.
The blast came after three earlier explosions hit a checkpoint in Heliopolis in Cairo and the city of al-Tur in South Sinai, killing two soldiers.
