Ethiopian ambassador to Cairo Mahmoud Dardir denied on Monday news over suspension of funding the Renaissance Dam by European, Asian countries as well as the World Bank, describing the news as "lies."
Dardir added that Ethiopia had not asked for funding and that its policy mainly depends on its people inside and outside the country.
All news over suspending of financing by some countries are new lies that are untrue, he told Anadolu, adding that specific agencies are known to be involved in promoting false rumors.
He indicated that the important phases of the dam have already been completed.
Darir also described the project as a national development one that seeks achieving sustainable development to Ethiopians and fighting poverty. The project will also have impacts on development fields on Nile basin countries and that each of Egypt and Sudan will take the highest advantages of it.
He explained that Ethiopian calls on Egypt to get back to dialogues and negotiations to carry out recommendations by the three-party commission expresses good wills by Ethiopia to resolve conflicts among Nile basin countries.
Darir also expressed disappointment over campaigns launched against Ethiopia, adding that his country did not respond to Egyptian claims against Ethiopia.
Tensions have erupted between Cairo and Addis Ababa, as the latter insists on accomplishing construction of the dam in light of Egyptian fears that the dam would affect its share of water, estimated at 55.5 billion meter square, as well as its national security in case the dam collapsed.
