Minister: Improvements on metro’s first line to cost LE2.9 billion

 
 
 
Transportation Minister Ibrahim al-Demeiry said on Tuesday that the investment projects on the metro’s first line (Helwan-Marg) will cost up to LE2.899 billion.
 
During a meeting between Demeiry and Ali al-Fadaly, who was recently named chairman of the Egyptian Company for Metro Management and Operation, the minister explained that the main projects include importing 20 new air conditioned trains at the cost of LE2.3 billion, developing a two-way railroad between al-Marg and new Marg stops at LE200 million and widening the Helwan stop at LE15 million to increase commuter capacity.
 
Demeiry said that service would also be improved through improving 17 trains at the cost of LE335 million (improvements on 11 trains have already been completed) and that elevators and escalators would be installed for the comfort of commuters especially the elderly.
 
Demeiry added that a new above-ground stop would be established at Hada’eq al-Maadi at the cost of LE30 million and that a mall would be established at Mansheyyet al-Sadr stop for LE19 million.
