Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) has indicated a decline in the number of inbound tourists in January reaching 642,000 tourists, compared to 903,000 tourists in January 2013, marking a decline of 28.9 percent.
The agency said in its monthly tourism bulletin on January that Eastern Europe was on top of countries sending tourists to Egypt, then Western Europe then the Middle East during this period.
Number of nights spent by tourists reached 8.9 million nights in January 2014, compared to 13.8 million in January 2013, marking a 35.5 percent decline. Nights spent by Eastern Europe’s tourists also came on top, followed by Western Europe and then the Middle East.
The number of tourists coming from Arab countries declined during the same period by 46.6 percent, reaching 101,800 tourists in January 2014 compared to 190,600 tourists in January 2013.
Number of nights spent by tourists from Arab countries reached 2.5 million in January 2014, compared to 4.1 million nights spent in January 2013, marking a 37.6 percent decline. The average number of nights by each tourist reached 13 nights in January 2014, compared to 14.6 nights in January 2013.
