The Ain Shams University administration carried out a series of measures in anticipation of protests during the second semester, set to begin on Saturday, as well as the potential spread of swine flu among students.
Electronic gates and sureveillance cameras have been set up at university entrances, maintenance work has been finalized and halls cleaned, according to university officials.
Ain Shams University President Hussein Eissa said that security forces would be stationed outside the university to intervene, upon his request, in case there was a threat to university buildings and students' lives.
Mohamed al-Husseiny Toukhy, Vice President of Ain Shams University, said on Friday that a committee has been formed to inspect hygiene at university hospitals and dormitories as a precautionary measure against swine flu.
Sixty two rooms have been allocated to quarantine suspected cases of the virus, he added.
"One hundred fifty security personnel have been trained to deal with protests and riots at the Human Development Institute, affiliated with the Interior Ministry," Toukhy said.
Students Against the Coup, a pro-Muslim Brotherhood student movement, announced that they are planning another wave of protests at universities starting Saturday to reject the return of police on university campuses.
"Students will begin a campaign against the return of police to campuses, one of the disadvantages of military rule," the movement said in a statement on its Facebook page.
