Egypt signed an LE300 million loan agreement on Wednesday with the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for a regional electricity control center in Al-Wasta, and another to upgrade the Naga Hammadi control center, in order to stabilize the electricity supply in Upper Egypt.
The agreements represent the first phase of an overall loan of LE1 billion.
Minister of Electricity and Energy Ahmed Imam said this first phase is for transferring information, control and communication systems known as SCADA / EMS / RTU.
“The project would reduce power cut durations and monitor the national network to locate and repair malfunctions,” he explained.
“We plan to expand and strengthen our electricity transmission networks and keep pace with the generating capacity for added loads,” he said.
