The Nazra Foundation for Feminist Studies has requested the independent fact-finding committee that is investigating the events of the 30 June revolution to form a subcommittee specializing in sexual violence.
The foundation said on Monday that the subcommittee should operate with transparency and submit its findings to the competent judicial officials. It also requested the appointment of trained women to deal with the victims of the various forms of sexual violence.
It added in a statement that there have been 174 cases of gang sexual abuse, including rape, between 30 June and 7 July, in addition to other cases during the Fath Mosque events of August 2013, the Cairo and Al-Azhar university events of 13 September 2013, the Shura Council event of 26 November 2013 and the events of the third anniversary of the revolution on 25 January 2014.
“The goal is to raise awareness of violations of the past in order to avoid them in the future,” the statement said.
