Mostafa Rashwan, director of Cairo University security, said that the Administrative Security Department has developed a plan to secure the university facilities, on Wednesday, prior to the demonstrations planned by pro-Muslim Brotherhood students.
Rashwan told Al-Masry Al-Youm Tuesday that administrative security personnel would be on campus Wednesday beginning at 6am and would intensify their presence at all entrances and exits of the university. He added the bags of students would be inspected before they enter the university, pointing out that female security personnel have been employed to inspect female students.
Rashwan said the police forces stationed on campus will interfere only if the demonstrations go violent or in case students commit acts of sabotage and riots.
Police forces will be present at Cairo University until the announcement of the results of exams as well as to secure the Open Education exams scheduled to start on 26 January, said President of Cairo University Gaber Nassar.
Nassar accused pro-Muslim Brotherhood students of committing vioelnt acts at the university on Thursday.
Nassar added in an official statement Tuesday that the police would be present on campus for security, in accordance with the decision of the Supreme Council of Universities in Egypt announced on Monday.
The pro-Muslim Brotherhood students have excersised unprecedented violence recently on campus, especially during exams, according to Nassar.
The University council decided to form a committee of deans to follow up the security measures until the end of exams and the announcement of results, he mentioned.
Since the ouster of President Mohamed Morsy, student sympathizers on campuses accross Egypt have held demonstrations, rejecting the interim government's legitimacy. The protests quickly grew violent when security forces stormed university campuses in an effort to break up the groups. Many students have been killed or injured in the process, further escalating the violence.
