Football League draw held on Thursday

The Egyptian Football Association announced on Wednesday that the draw for the Premier League clubs for the 2013-2014 season will take place at 1pm on Thursday afternoon at Association headquarters in al-Gezira. Representatives from the 22 football clubs participating in the competition will be in attendance.

The draw was originally scheduled for Tuesday morning but was indefinitely postponed that same day due to delays in security clearance from the Interior Ministry.

According to the Association's official website, the resignation of Mazen Al-Marzouq as chairman of the competitions committee was unanimously accepted, and another head would be chosen at the committee's meeting on Thursday.

Marzouk had handed out his resignation in protest of the postponement of the League draw for the third time .

Meanwhile Zamalek club head Kemal Derwish, who also serves as chairman of the clubs committee, said the football Premier League will still be held on 26 December as scheduled. He explained that the Interior Ministry has approved the securing of the League in the stadiums preferred by the football clubs.

This came after a meeting of the clubs committee with leaders of the Interior Ministry. All those present agreed that League matches will be held without fans.

The 2012 football season was suspended after the February Port Said Stadium massacre that killed 72 Ahly Club fans. The 2013 season was also put on hold after the 30 June protests. Matches scheduled for the past year were carried out in army stadiums.
