A 44-year-old farmer died inside a police station in Minya on Wednesday. The farmer’s brother has accused police officers of beating him to death.
"Police arrested my brother while he was on his way home and took him to the station," said Saber Abdallah Mohamed. "On the way, they kicked him in his back causing him to bleed from the nose.
"Others with him in detention told me that police officers continued to beat my brother at the station," Mohamed added.
Dr. Mostafa Abd Rabboh, director of Deir Mawas Hospital in Minya, said the man was already dead when he was subsequently brought to the hospital. "We deposited the body in the morgue for prosecutors to handle."
Public prosecutors have reportedly ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
