A march of hundreds of supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood started at the Mosque of Aziz Bellah in Helmeyet al-Zaytoon, Cairo, after the Friday prayer, on its way to the Helmeyet al-Zaytoon square.
Verbal altercations erupted between the demonstrators and some residents of Tumanbay street.
Participants in the march held pictures of the Alexandria girls who were sent to 11 years in prison on Wednesday, in addition to pictures of deposed President Mohamed Morsy.
On Wednesday, 21 young girls, aged 15 to 22, were sentenced to serve 11 years in prison for holding a peaceful protest supporting the ousted Islamist president on the Corniche of Alexandria. Seven of the girls were minors, aged 15 to 17, and were sentenced to a juvenile center.
The protestors also chanted slogans against the Interior Ministry and condemning military rule.
Clashes later erupted between Muslim Brotherhood supporters and residents, when they wrote the word "Islamist," referring to an "Islamist state," on the walls of Virgin Mary church.
