A Giza policeman died on Thursday after being shot by suspected muggers days before, leading Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim to promise retribution for his death.
Major Ahmed Abul Dahab was returning home after his shift on Sunday in his own car, when he saw two assailants on a motorbike trying to steal a woman’s phone on Giza's Haram Street.
He followed them and was able to stop them, however, one of them fired birdshot at the officer then escaped. Abul Dahab was then transferred to hospital for treatment.
He died of his injuries in Agouza police hosptial on Thursday.
Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim offered his condolences over the policeman’s death. He promised his family retribution and providing them with social care.
