The Muslim Brotherhood has called on the United Nations not to recognize Nabil Fahmy as Egypt's foreign minister.
The Islamist organization demanded human rights organizations, including the United Nations, not recognize Fahmy at the UN or allow him to enter the organization's headquarters in New York.
Fahmy, part of Hazem al-Beblawy's interim Cabinet, recently attended the UN for a General Assembly session which saw U.S. President Barack Obama and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani make significant speeches.
"This man who went to represent Egypt at the UN as the foreign minister of Egypt is [part of] a void cabinet appointed by a void [interim] president appointed in turn by a defense minister who carried out a military coup," the group said in a Wednesday statement, referring to Defense Minister Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. "He kidnapped the legitimate civilian president and has been hiding him from then on from his family."
"He [Sisi] carried out bloody massacres against the Egyptian people who reject the coup, leading to the killing of about 5,000 peaceful citizens and the injury of about 10,000." The Muslim Brotherhood claimed Egypt's new rulers had carried out "crimes against humanity" on civilian protesters.
The Muslim Brotherhood concluded its statement by appealing to all countries and institutions not to recognize the current government, including the foreign minister.
"The Egyptian people reject that representative imposed on them through iron and fire."
