Authorities withdraw from Kerdasa after arresting main suspects

Security forces have withdrawn from Giza's Kerdasa city on Monday after days of raids launched by joint army and police troops.

Authorities claim they have arrested all the main suspects involved in violence in the city in the wake of the dispersal of pro-Morsy sit-ins at Rabaa al-Adaweya and Giza's al-Nahda Square. Then 11 police officers were killed by unknown assailants who raided a police station and killed and tortured those inside.

Troops stayed at entrances and exits of Kerdasa. Ambushes were set up on roads leading to it.

Store owners resumed their work regularly following the security withdrawal from the area surrounding the police station.

Saeed al-Zinary, alleged to be one of the chief suspects in the Kerdasa police station massacre, was arrested Monday.

A security source said forces are continuing operations in Kerdasa to arrest all suspects for alleged roles in violence that erupted in Kerdasa last week.

On Sunday, 24 defendants were detained for 15 days pending investigations into charges of involvement in the Kerdasa violence.
