Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy will travel to New York next week to head Egypt’s delegation at the UN General Assembly. For the first time, the delegation has several youth leaderships from the civil society.
Badr Abdel Aaty, spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry, said Fahmy will deliver a word to the 68th session of the General Assembly.
The broad presence at the session will enable Fahmy to continue Egypt’s defense of the 30 June revolution and mobilize political and economic support for Egypt as well as explain the dimensions of the democracy that Egyptians aspire to have and the positive impact it would have on Egypt and region. He will also highlight the steps taken to implement the roadmap despite economic and security difficulties, said Abdel Aaty.
Abdel Aaty also said that the efforts exerted by Fahmy also seek to maintain the balance Egyptian foreign policy has restored after the revolution through building partnerships with different parties, diversifying alternatives and engaging positively with the world on a basis of respect and competitiveness. This, he said, maximises Egypt’s political, economic and social benefits, including attracting investments, restoring tourists arrivals and opening markets.
Fahmy will hold bilateral meetings with participating foreign ministers, join regional and international meetings and attend several events that will be held by research centers as well as give interviews with Arab, European and American TV networks.
Fahmy will also meet with the Secretary General of the UN, the President of the UN General Assembly, the High Commissioner for Human Rights, and the secretary-general of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.
Fahmy is also scheduled to head Egypt’s delegation in several meetings held at the level of foreign ministers, including meetings for the Arab League Council, the non-Aligned Movement, and the organisation of Islamic Cooperation.
